Tips for better DTG T-shirt Printing

DTG or Direct-to-garment is a process of printing that uses the new aqueous inkjet technology. The printers normally use a platen for keeping the cloth in one place and the printer ink is prayed over it. For DTG T-shirt printing, the t-shirt should be pre-treated with the help of a Pre-treatment machine (PTM). Pre-treatment of cloths using PTM helps in a stronger connection between the t-shirt fibers and the inks.  It chemically combines with the ink for accelerating the process of drying and blistering. Moreover, it also helps to create a smooth substrate by laying the fibers loose. The aqueous textile ink must go through a curing procedure before it can be used in the DTG printers. Before printing, the t-shirts are frequently given a pre-treatment so that the fibers of the t-shirts remain flat when they are heat pressed within the garment. This also helps to form a strong connection between the fabric and the water-based ink. This is very helpful during printing on dark clothes with white ink.

  • Blanks: DTG T-shirt printing works best if the t-shirt is 100% cotton. A t-shirt made of lower quality cloth will result in a bad print that easily gets washed away. 
  • Artwork: Using high-quality raster and Vector files is very important for good DTG printing. The use of mobile phone pictures may result in bad prints. 
  • Maintenance: Regular maintenance is needed to keep the DTG printer in optimal condition. Irregularity in maintenance can lead to a decline in the quality of prints as well as the ability of the DTG printer to function properly.
  • Documenting the process: Good DTG printers will remain functional for a long period, even if they are not used regularly. While you are using it again you can use the same setting for pretreat &curing, color density, and RIP. 
  • The DTG printing should be carried out in a clean dust-free environment. An air-conditioned environment having average humidity is also favorable for DTG printing
  • Curing: Succesful DTG shops use conveyor dryers to accelerate the process of production.
